Unlike me (I launch into any new game with the sole intent of winning it ASAP), gamers like to lose &#8211; at least at first. Many will start a new game by learning how to fail quickly. Then, they start over&#8230; again and again. Over time, this allows them to uncover the often-hidden rules of the game that provide its structure. Once the gamer has discovered these rules, they can more quickly master and prevail at the game, knowing its underlying logic.   <\/p>\n<p>The problems we face involve real people with feelings and tempers and maybe a history of grievances. Seeking to fail may add fuel to the fire. If you bring a &#8220;learning&#8221; approach to novel problems rather than a &#8220;performance,&#8221; you already know this. The only way to learn enough about a complex problem is to fail and to learn as you go. This is a hard truth to accept in American culture, where we usually seek quick fixes. Most of us focus on the more immediate, shorter-term results, while others think longer-term.
