Then, either on a piece of paper or a device, note every time you notice yourself drawn to blame or judge &#8211; whatever the cause. You may be surprised by what you find.<\/p>\r\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.guidedtrack.com\/programs\/3kzjqjd\/run\" rel=\"noopener\">Take The Inventory<\/a><h4>The Science Behind It<\/h4>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4927037\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">addiction<\/a> to blame and outrage is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3019061\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">toxic<\/a> and is a central part of the vicious cycle of polarization we are trapped in.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t15 minutes\r\n                    <h3>How Do You Derail in Conflict?<\/h3><p>Take the <a href=\"https:\/\/conflictintelligence.org\/CARS.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conflict Anxiety Response Scale<\/a> (CARS) assessment and review your feedback report.<\/p>\r\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/conflictintelligence.org\/CARS.html\" rel=\"noopener\">Take The Scale<\/a><h4>The Science Behind It<\/h4>The way we approach conflicts in our lives is strongly affected by our anxieties. These may be based on fears of our own or others&#8217; aggression getting out of control, a sense of helplessness, or concerns over the pain and discomfort conflict may bring. Experiencing higher anxiety levels makes us more <a href=\"https:\/\/ajp.psychiatryonline.org\/doi\/full\/10.1176\/appi.ajp.2009.09070931\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inclined<\/a> to experience or instigate conflict. Being engaged in conflict, in turn, tends to make most of us feel even more anxious. Many of us <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5897434\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">respond<\/a> to conflict in extreme and harmful ways when this happens, stressing our closer relationships.<\/p>\r\n<p>So, how can you get conflict right? Take the CARS. Then, reflect on how you tend to respond when anxious. Knowing yourself is the first step to changing how you respond.<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t30 minutes\r\n                    <h3>Know (and Grow) Your Positivity-to-Negativity Ratio<\/h3><p>Practice <a href=\"https:\/\/starts-with-us.cdn.prismic.io\/starts-with-us\/ce8ad89c-27af-4ee2-8f66-8f21a98e0544_Day+1+-+Cultivate+Positivity.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cultivating positivity and minimizing obstacles to constructive dialogue<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidedtrack.com\/programs\/1r06cjk\/run\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">take an emotional reservoirs assessment<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<h4>The Science Behind It<\/h4><p>One of the most powerful <a href=\"https:\/\/psycnet.apa.org\/record\/2013-42744-037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">findings<\/a> in conflict research over the last few decades is the power of our emotional ratios. That is, how our positive-to-negative experiences of others accumulate over time to grow emotional reservoirs that set the stage for our next encounters.<\/p>\r\nThe relationship will likely withstand and benefit from conflict when we have high positive-to-negative ratios. However, low positive-to-negative ratios mean the stage is set for battle, no matter how minor your conflicts may be.
