Polarization on College Campuses<\/h2>\r\n

Americans are more polarized than ever, and college campuses are no exception. Over the last year, colleges have become a flashpoint in the discussions about division and extremism in this country. This problem has been building for years, as a result of increasing polarization and breakdown in civil discourse.<\/p>\r\n

We are ready to equip students across the country with the tools and resources to reverse the trends of polarization by becoming a Builder<\/strong> – a flexible thinker and constructive problem solver who recognizes the dignity of all people.<\/p>\r\n

To deliver these resources directly to students, we have developed a student-led, interactive crash course on becoming a Builder. Starting this fall, we are partnering with leaders of student groups – from athletic groups to chess clubs and Greek life – to pilot the workshop on U.S. college campuses.<\/p>\r\n

Do you want to drive change on your campus? Here is how you can take action!<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

We are opening applications for 10 student leaders to participate in this pilot program. Accepted students will join Lonnie Ali and Daniel Lubetzky for a virtual session where they will be trained on how to deliver the Builders Mindset Crash Course to their own student groups. These 10 leaders will gain access to one-of-a-kind tools and course materials, and each student leader will receive a $650 grant: $150 for their time commitment (participating in the virtual training session, organizing the workshop, etc.), and $500 to support costs related to organizing the in-person workshop (such as food, rental equipment, etc.).<\/p>\r\n

Crash Course FAQ<\/h2>\r\n

How many students are you accepting for the pilot program?<\/h3>\r\n

We are accepting 10 student leaders for this pilot.<\/p>\r\n

Is there a deadline to apply for the program?<\/h3>\r\n

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all 10 spots are filled.<\/p>\r\n

Can anyone apply?<\/h3>\r\n

Any student leaders (of student groups on a U.S. campus with more than 10 members) can apply. Whether you lead the chess club, club field hockey, or a sorority or fraternity, we encourage you to apply!<\/p>\r\n

What should the grant money be used for?<\/h3>\r\n

You, as the Student Group Leader, will receive a direct grant that will cover both your time commitment (participation in the virtual training, workshop preparation, and facilitation of the workshop) and any costs associated with the workshop, such as costs required for rental equipment, and food and beverages for attendees.<\/p>\r\n

How will I receive the grant?<\/h3>\r\n

You will receive a transfer of $150 dollars to your bank account upon acceptance to the program (and once we receive your account information), and $500 dollars upon completing the virtual training and the required post-training survey.<\/p>\r\n

Are there any conditions to the grant?<\/h3>\r\n

All participating student leaders will be asked to sign an agreement before receiving the grant. This agreement will include a commitment to attend the virtual training, complete the required surveys, and conduct the in-person workshop. Participantswill also agree to spend the grant on expenses related to the workshop.<\/p>\r\n

What is the time commitment for participating in the program?<\/h3>\r\n

The virtual training will take approximately 2 hours of your time. We estimate that workshop preparation and the workshop itself will take about 4 hours total.<\/p>\r\n

What will the virtual training session entail?<\/h3>\r\n

You will join your fellow student leaders from campuses across the country for a virtual training session. The training will be introduced by two special guests and will be conducted by skilled educators who will walk you through how to run the workshop in your student group, providing you with tools and resources including a syllabus, recommended readings, etc. We expect you to feel fully equipped to facilitate this workshop in your student group upon completion of the training.<\/p>\r\n

When will the virtual training take place?<\/h3>\r\n

The virtual training session will take place within a month of your acceptance into this pilot program. We expect that the training session will take place in September or early October 2024.<\/em> We will work with all participants to schedule the virtual training at a time that is convenient for all. If you are unable to attend the training due to a conflict or prior commitment, the Builders team will work with you on an alternative solution.<\/p>\r\n

Can I organize the workshop more than once?<\/h3>\r\n

We greatly encourage you to share the Builders Mindset with more students! The individual grant will only cover one workshop, but the course materials will be yours to keep and re-use as you see fit!<\/p>\r\n
