Builders TX is part of the national Builders Movement<\/a>, a 501(c)(3) organization committed to overcoming “us vs. them” politics and strengthening accountability in our democracy.<\/p>\n

Builders Bloc<\/a> is an independent, nonpartisan 501(c)(4) organization advancing citizen-led policies and holds elected officials accountable to the broad will of the people, not just the most ideologically extreme.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhat Are The Primaries?\t<\/h2>\n\t

Primary elections are how voters choose who will represent each political party on the ballot. Before the November election, parties hold primaries to decide which candidates move forward.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPrimaries Matter More Than General Elections\t<\/h2>\n

\n\t\t\tHere’s Why\t<\/h3>\n\t

Texas primary runoff elections take place 5\/26\/26 and determine the candidates for the general election, on 11\/3\/26. Each party holds its own primary.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"Diverse\n

\n\t\t\tPrimaries decide who will be on the November ballot\t<\/h3>\n\t

If you don’t vote in the primary, you don’t get a say in which candidates move forward. You are stuck, often, with candidates who don’t reflect your values or the broad will of Texans.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTexans stink at turning out for the primaries\t<\/h3>\n\t

On average 4 out of 5 Texans skip the primaries. That means, 80% of you will ignore this. In some primaries, the margin of victory can be as little as 300+ votes. (Don’t feel too bad – every other state has low turnout, too).<\/p>\n

Guess who DOES show up at the primaries?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A small group of very committed, often more politically extreme voters turn out while the majority of people who want common sense leadership stay home. Candidates know where their bread is buttered – so, they focus on and pander to the “base” without regard to the rest of us.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWithout strong primary turnout, the problem continues\t<\/h2>\n

\n\t\t\tHouston (and the rest of Texas), we have a problem\t<\/h3>\n\t\t15%\n\t

Only 15% of Americans think Congress is doing its job well.<\/p>\n\t\t95%\n\t

Yet, in 2024, 95% of incumbents were re-elected.<\/p>\n\t\t25%\n\t

A recent poll of Texans found that fewer than 25% approved of how Texas legislators do their jobs, but most get reelected.<\/p>\n\t

Candidates are more likely to win by sticking closely to their party, rather than trying to work with people on the other side.<\/p>\n\t
